Dr. Kristen Short
Associate Veterinarian
I grew up in Pennsylvania in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. From a young age, I had a strong passion for animals. I raised puppies for the Seeing Eye, volunteered at the local shelters, interned at the Working Dog Center at University of Pennsylvania, and once I was old enough began working at a small local clinic as a veterinary assistant. These experiences forged my drive to become a veterinarian. Through high school, I was a competitive swimmer and golfer. I attended Pennsylvania State University where I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in 2018. After undergrad, I relocated to Minnesota where I attended University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. I continued to work as a small animal technician at a local veterinary hospital until my graduation in 2022.
Upon graduating, I relocated again to Boise, ID for a one year small animal rotating internship at a specialty hospital. Through this experience, I gained a vast amount of knowledge and hands-on experience from many specialties including emergency, cardiology, internal medicine, surgery, neurology, and more. During this time, I gained a special interest in urgent care medicine, internal medicine, and neurology. After completing my internship, I moved to Raleigh with my husband and worked at a small animal emergency and referral hospital for two years. While I loved my time working in emergency medicine, I missed forming long-term connections with the patients and clients I served, which was one of my big draws to the veterinary field. I am excited to join Complete Pet Care Animal Hospital and begin forging these kinds of relationships.
Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, biking, reading (especially mysteries/ thrillers), and playing board games. I live with my husband and two Golden Retrievers, Amber and Hudson. We are frequently exploring new trails in the mountains, trying new food on a patio, or checking out a local festival.
